This week an unnamed man was unpacking his shopping from his recent Waitrose delivery when he discovered a Brazilian Wandering Spider hiding under a bunch of Bananas.

The spider has been named in the Guinness Book Of Records as the world’s most venomous spider. Its bite has been known to kill a person within a few hours if the correct anti-venom isn’t administered and has a strange side effect…the venom can cause painful erections in men, sometimes lasting as long as four hours.

Having realised that the uninvited guest was not a regular house spider, the man called Waitrose for help, who in turn contacted a specialist pest expert.

The pest expert arrived and found the spider had already ripped off its own leg in an attempt to escape. The spider tried to attack by standing on its hind leg, with its fangs ready to bite…but it was eventually contained in a plastic box. The pest expert also discovered an egg sack containing thousands of unhatched eggs. These were frozen later on to kill them off.

Waitrose said: ‘The safety of our customers is our absolute priority. We did everything we could to look after our customer during what was a distressing incident and we’ve apologised personally. Although this is highly unusual, we’re taking it very seriously and will be working with our supplier to minimise the risk of this happening again.’

Personally, we’ve gone off the idea of Bananas!
